This weekend I went to NYC for my cousin’s wedding. I took the bus there and on the way I researched and brainstormed some mug ideas for Valentine’s Day. I wanted to add to the collection and I decided to go a little more mainstream with some of my designs… basically design less lol. It seems like people are more interested in mugs now with just plain text on them and a tiny, if any, design/image element. After the wedding I sat in my (twin sized lol) bed and talked to my sister while I designed a set of 20 new much more basic, but pretty funny if I do say so myself mugs. Full transparency, she helped me come up with a few of them and she nixed a couple that she didn’t think were relatable enough. My favorites are “I tolerate you” “Roses are Red Violets are Blue Shut up” and “You are my favorite pain in the ass”. I like how these mugs look on the site since they are less busy and easier to see at a glance. I think we might add a few of these to the homepage at the top to highlight them since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.
I really want to make some more that have this simple appealing format but that aren’t Valentine’s Day themed and see how they do in relation to some of the other products. As an aside, it was neat to be at the wedding this weekend and have a new answer to the small talk question “what do you do?”. Ahem, “I am a small business owner!” Just how small, no one needs to know, but it was fun to be able to say that none-the-less!
